week 10

The film is in editing process. The music is better to be more serious rather than “happy and light” style that is mentioned in the previous posts. The music goes louder in the film for the crowd of people scene. When the member from our group is talking, the music should be turned down to the lowest. When the scenes change into “crowd people scene”, the volume turns louder.

week 9

I have found a guitar CD I bought on Melbourne’s street. I don't know their contact information, but I really want to use one piece of it. Because I think if I use it as the background music of the scene which is about people using computer and walking, it can present the light-hearted of most people is using and wasting energy. I need to check out a more match music in MAC computer.

week 8

Sadiq send a video link online. But I don’t understand it at all. It is not English.
I think the music of the video is good. It may be able to be chosen as our film music style which is light and happy.

week 7

Toula gives us some suggestions which are really helpful. We shoot the film again. I think this time it is much better. We add some scenes such as people walking pass the street and students are using computers for entertain and study. It sends me the message that if we keep wasting energy, how long we can stay in this kind of convenient world. This is not just an “old fashion topic”. It is serious. So, this week I still take care of the sound in the film. Everything goes well.

week 6

We start shooting the film. It is documentary. Each of us is going to present in the film. We talk about environmental problem should be paid attention and the simple ways for people saving energy in daily life. The microphone works well and catches presenter’s speaking clearly. There is not much cacophony. It is acceptable.

week 5

Keep study about sound editor’s job. Sound in the film is as important is the visual effect. It helps to create the atmosphere. Different film style needs different sound effect. Moreover, I have to consider the copyright. I think if we are going to present a documentary, we can use the music pieces which are provided in MAC computer.

week 4

We are still talking about the content of the film. The style of the film could be cartoon or telling a story. Maybe documentary can deliver our green concept more clearly and directly. I searched online about my role which is sound editor to get more acknowledge.

week 3

Week 3
Environmental issues become the content of our campaign. We aim to raise the awareness among people. First we believe we should start in universities as the high educational institutes own influential power in educational and social level. I think maybe we can start a film which is about showing the contract of nature and pollution. We need to discuss.

week 2

Week 2
Environmental issues have become an important topic in the world. It seems that this topic is not just a slogan any more. People are actually pay attention. According to a research, up to 70% people in a country consider their shopping behaviour for protecting environment. In Britain, the business such as supermarkets and convenience store is actually influenced by the “green concept”. I am touched by a short video from French.

week 1

Week 1
Media is important in social live. In my opinion, the two most effective ways to spread information are internet and film. In this semester, we are going to start a campaign. Through film and internet, more people will get our concept and information. I watched a video which asks a question, “how media affects you”. It is so true. BUT, LET’S THINK IN POSITIVE WAY as much as we can.

week 10

Editing has been unexpectedly easy and the film is in order in the computer now, we are running with some problems putting the text into the credit scenes and we are going to some final cut pro tutorials online to learn how to do them  we are in the final stages and today its the day that we decide what music to put in the video so we are all very excited.

week 9

Scenes being re filmed and editing taking place. Final cut pro has made things so easy and it is allowing us to advance in the project at a speed we never thought we would. We are now more confident with time and our techniques.

week 8

The film has started and we are using the study break to get this finished. We ran into some problems as our initial audio wasn’t good at all and had to film most scenes again. The locations were not boring and everyone is happy with the concept of the video. We are now looking at the possible editing methods to use and the completed project is in everyone’s mind so it is extremely helpful.

week 7

Film techniques are now being explored in class and the camera operation aswell as the microphone and audio techniques are being explored. We are very positive as our film will not require many locations and many special effects as it is only a info clip.

week 6

We  are practically re writing the script and sticking to our storyboard  since we were forced to link the film to our campaign, not our company. The film will be about a campaign carried out by a company  and the campaign is called Enviro student and its objective is to turn UTS Insearch into a green university and hoping the whole of Sydney will follow this example.

week 5

The Crew roles are now established and we have a producer cinematographer a scout actors and sound engineer. The story board is being developed and the script and dialogues are taking shape now. A small complication has come to us since we are being pressured by other subjects to link our film to them when we don’t really understand what the requirements are for that lecturer. We are now trying to understand what those 2 classes for that lecturers are about but no one in the class does so we are going to the coordinators to get a clear explanation.

week 4

Green Company is now developing a plot to create a company of some sort as it has to be created from scratch. The options go from a green restaurant to a green library but since we spend most of our time the most likable last option was a green university. We live in them we learn in them and we practically know everything about them so it seems a perfect option to make a film on something we are familiar with.

week 3

It has been decided, the confusion is so big as our lecturers in different subjects are not prepared that we decided to make a film about a Green company and the methods used to turn it green.
It doesn’t matter at this point if we understood the necessity and requirements for the other subjects as long as we are creating a film that will be of quality and well made. It is no longer necessary to waste time trying to link the film into something we  probably won’t have any idea through all semester.

week 2

After being absolutely confused by company/campaign issues  we still dont know what our film treatment will be about since its impossible to get the proper assistance from lecturers in other subjects to explain what is it that they want.  But after conducting a team meeting and summing up what each understood we decided to create a environmentally friendly company there fore the subject to be filmed will be about a company going green.

week 1

The film project to be developed has been discussed and the team members have now decided to create an informative film about the campaign to be developed. We chose to create a short film that will be a supplement to a website for a campaign to ceate additional footage for the campaign.

WEEK 10

We still have a bit of editing to do, but it is almost finished now. This week we have to work on putting the text of the opening and closing credits into the film successfully, as well as finding appropriate music for those sequences. This last process will be difficult, as it is too late to use recognizable music because of copyright, so we will all be looking for free music that will sound good in our film. The film looks to be about 5 minutes long, which is what we were aiming for, so we’re all fairly happy with that.

WEEK 9

I was absent from class this week, but we have started the editing process.
It is going smoothly, and is almost completed, as we have a relatively simple structure for our project, and there is not much cutting of scenes involved, as far as I understand. We are going to miss a lesson because of ANZAC Day, and this puts a bit more pressure on us to have the film edited and all our documentation completed on time.

WEEK 8

Week 8

We had originally planned to start the editing process this week, but after reviewing our rushes with Toula, we have decided on some reshoots. There are no major problems with the film; it’s just small issues that we can fix to make it a lot better. These include steady camera work, better zooming, and also one of our scenes has barely audible sound (that one was actually a bit of a major issue)So, we spent this past week re-filming those scenes, which this time took a lot longer than expected, as we wanted to get them absolutely perfect.
On Toula’s advice we also explored using cue cards, though most of the group ended up finding them distracting, as we tended to look at the cards instead of the camera during our scenes.
Later in the week we also filmed our opening and closing scenes, which are shots of the street outside INSEARCH, where we can see students walking around and talking. These last scenes are recent additions to the script.

WEEK 7

This week, we focused mainly on shooting, although Rommel was still finalizing some aspects of the script.
We filmed in and around the Prince Centre, using classrooms and computer labs as our sets.
Filming was hard work, but was still pretty fun. I think filming went pretty smoothly, as we were a bit more experienced than last semester, and knew how to handle the camera, and various small problems that arose.
I also learnt that I didn’t actually have to get permissions to film in the University buildings, as I had thought I did, so that was a bit of a bonus for me.

WEEK 6

this week, Rommel worked on finalising the script so we could film over the next few weeks. We have decided to abandon the interactive idea, solely based on time constraints and editing issues, as none of us are very skilled editors. we have decided to do an informative documentary style film. The film is being designed to appeal to an older demographic, as our research ahs shown they will be more likely to view a film to gain information, rather than visit a website, which we are also required to create. Each member of our group is going to have a speaking role, describing environmental problems relating to energy, and offering solutions that are practical to university students. This will then reinforce our idea in the campaign of encouraging universities to become ‘green’, as well as the idea of the ‘green student’

WEEK 5

We had a short presentation to the class today. We had to discuss our project overview, timeline and target audience for the film. we have decided that we will try to make a short film that is both informative and educational, while still being enjoyable to watch. We are still aiming to make the film interactive, but are aware of time constraints. However, we want to do this to appeal to a younger demographic. We have watched some youtube videos and seen that this is quite easy to do, however some of those videos are unprofessional, and we want ours to look better. One of the films we are using as inspiration for our own project is “Oxygen” by Christopher Hendryx. His short film is an educational piece, about the element Oxygen. We feel his approach to the film is very good, as it is educational, and teaches us about different elements, but it is done in a fun and interactive manner.

WEEK 4

We had our first assessment for this subject due this week. We submitted our web-doc review of the documentary ‘journey to the end of coal’ onto UTS online. The documentary was interesting and thought provoking, as it was a type of ‘choose your own ending’, where we could take any path we wanted through the web documentary to learn new information. If it’s possible, I would like to explore this option in our own film. Today, we also discussed our individual roles within our group, and what those roles meant in terms of workloads and jobs. we finally decided on the following roles:
Rommel: Writer/Director
Susan: Sound Recordist
Sadiq: Editor
Petrelli: Camera Operator/cinematographer (Director of Photography)
Me: Producer/ line producer

My own job involves the following:
- Organise the filming schedules, and call sheets
- Organise permissions for shooting locations
- Organise copyright for music and visuals, if needed
- arrange food and drink for cast and crew
- Organise tapes for the camera

Rommel and I also briefly discussed the direction of the project, and we agreed that a documentary based film was probably the best idea for our project.

WEEK 3

In our other classes we have further narrowed down the scope of our campaign, and have decided on energy conservation. This is because we feel that it is an environmental issue that is not focused on very much in society, and we also didn’t want to a conventional environmental issue (such as recycling or saving water) because we feel that people are bit bored about hearing them. We watched a web based documentary called “journey to the end of coal”, which we have an assessment due next week about. We need to write a web-doc review, and submit it to UTS online next week.

WEEK 2

We have formed our group and begun the process of narrowing down or choices. At this stage it looks like we’re going to do a campaign on the environment, but we are still unsure of the scope of the project. My group consists of Rommel, Sadiq, Petrelli, Susan and myself.
In class we watched some documentaries, and have been writing synopses of them. We also discussed camera angles and shooting techniques, and while I know that isn’t my strong point, I recognise that they will be very important when it comes to shooting our own short film.

WEEK 1

This is the first class of the semester. I think we’re all a bit lost and overwhelmed at this point. We basically just ran through what we had to do this semester – that is to create a social awareness campaign through most of our classes. In this class we can choose to make a film tied to the campaign, or something separate. I think it’s probably better to make a short film tied to the campaign, only because it I think it could only strengthen our final presentation. I still don’t know what I want to base my campaign on, or who I want to work with, but have been thinking of some possible ideas over the break

Week 10

We still editing, we finished adding credits but we still straggling with the music issue.

Week 9

We have started editing the film. It ends up being 5 minutes. We need to write the credits, add some music and some effects. However, we still wondering, can we adjoin any music or we should ask for permeation?

Week 8

Editing the film is the most significant past after filming. If this process went wrong the whole film will be affected. Because of that and because I’m the editor in my time a need your help, please watch this clip and give me your opinion about its editing.

Week 7

During the last few days we have filmed. After watching the film in the class with Toula, we have decided to re-film some scenes.
We found that in several footages the sound volume was not loud enough. Where as in others there were some technical mistakes such as the speed transform from being zoomed in to zoom out.

Week 6

As a team, we have decided what, where and when we are going to film. We have the script done. Simply, we are going to film at Insearch buildings. Each member of the team will present a part. It will be an educational film offering some tips in how students can save water and energy in order to participate in protecting the environment.

Week 5

This clip touched me, we want to do something like this one, deliver the message in away impact the viewers.
The film called Closed Zone. This is a film done by Yoni Goodman, an Israeli director. It is telling the story of GAZA and its people and how they are suffering.

Week 4

From this week we are wondering, how we are going to film?

What is the preeminent style that allows us to reach the target audiences?

I found these clips helpful in terms of how to film.

Clip 1

Clip 2

Week 3

What is green campaign and how its work?

How we could formalize a campaign addressing students?

To what extend our project can go for?

How we can be benefited from these two examples?

1st Example

2nd Example

Week 2

Our lives on this earth depended on keep it valid, survival for living and producing the resources that we need. Yet and because of the excessive and uncontrolled environment, there have been problems, which threaten human life, such as lack of resources and increase the heat and pollution.

All of these environmental problems require a serious stand from all countries, governments and individuals to protect the environment for us and for the future generations.

For that reason, our team decided to make our graduation project about the environment. It is a contribution to aware a significant segment of the community which is university students.

This report illustrates the seriousness of the environmental impacts on our life.

Week 1

Watching television can be considered as one of the main means of receiving information in the current era. By saying that we could say that film is actually an important part of the media too.
Over the years, the use of film to shape people's perceptions and change their views on certain things and many studies in this area approve that. Again, we have the right to say that the impact of films, in particular and television in general affects people's thinking and feelings, and even their beliefs.

This
clip is a simple evidence, please watch it, enjoy it, and then shared with me your opinion.
